Leaders Against Litter

Speak Up. Pick Up. Stand Up.

Leaders Against Litter is an annual statewide Keep Louisiana Beautiful event that showcases our community leaders and elected officials “leading the way” in our charge against litter. This initiative raises awareness about how Louisiana’s pervasive litter problem affects communities by inviting community leaders to observe the problem first-hand by cleaning up a local roadway and educating participants about the direct and indirect costs and damage caused by litter. We ask all leaders to make a public commitment by pledging to SPEAK UP, PICK UP, and STAND UP for a litter-free Louisiana.

Leaders Against Litter 2018

Leaders Against Litter 2018 will be held on Friday, March 23. Morning events and cleanup activities will take place in each participating affiliate throughout the state. Keep Louisiana Beautiful, Lieutenant Governor Nungesser and Volunteer Louisiana will then host a press conference at the State Capitol to announce the combined results from morning cleanups and ask all Louisiana citizens to take action by volunteering in their communities in March through May as part of the Great American Cleanup season.

Impact

In 2017, 27 Keep Louisiana Beautiful affiliates held Leaders Against Litter in communities across Louisiana. Over the course of one morning, 883 community leaders signed the Leaders Against Litter pledge, and picked up 555 bags of litter as well as 13,442 cigarette butts. All of these materials have been diverted from our streets, public spaces, and waterways. Leaders Against Litter serves as the kick-off event for the Great American Cleanup every March.

Leaders Against Litter Pledge for a Cleaner Tomorrow

“We all have an obligation to preserve and protect our beautiful state. Together, we can make a huge impact. I promise to support Keep Louisiana Beautiful and the local affiliates for a litter-free, more beautiful Louisiana.

I will … SPEAK Up and spread the word that litter is not acceptable in Louisiana.

I will … PICK Up litter whenever I see it.

I will … STAND UP and lead the way for a litter-free Louisiana.”
