Leaders Against Litter

Together, We Can Clean Up Louisiana.

Leaders Against Litter is designed to educate, cultivate, and actively engage leaders throughout the state in support of a litter-free Louisiana.

Annually, Leaders Against Leaders regional summits are held to inform local leaders of the negative impacts of litter on Louisiana. At the summits, attendees are encouraged to pledge their commitment to cleaning up their community and the state.

Leaders Against Litter Pledge for a Cleaner Tomorrow

I support a litter-free Louisiana. I pledge to Keep Louisiana Beautiful by:

  • Advocating for policies and best practices that support litter prevention.

  • Prioritizing a clean and beautiful community and state.

  • Standing up and leading the way for a litter-free Louisiana.

Here are some ways to address litter in your community:

  • Remind citizens to secure their loads, keep their truck beds clean, and never throw trash out the window.
  • Promote litter prevention through social media, direct mail, your website, and permanent signage. A free Let Louisiana Shine marketing toolkit is available on KLB’s website with social media graphics, messaging, and more.
  • Sign up to participate in Love the Boot Week in April. Everyone is encouraged to sign up to clean up at LoveTheBoot.org.
  • Encourage citizens to check out litter clean up supplies through the Get Down & Clean Up program — available at 140+ public libraries.
  • Download the Litter Court Handbook for easy access to relevant provisions of state law and the basic procedures for conducting and overseeing a Litter Court.
  • Ask local law enforcement to prioritize litter enforcement. Encourage Sheriff’s offices to apply for the Sheriff’s Grant, offered through KLB and the State of Louisiana, to support their efforts.
  • Encourage your local businesses to join the Clean Biz Partnership with KLB. Businesses should adopt best practices for litter prevention such as placing trash receptacles in their parking lots and at their storefronts.
  • Encourage organizations with outdoor events to utilize the Greener Grounds Guidebook and Workbook to reduce event litter and waste.
  • Speak to students at local schools about the harmful impacts of litter and encourage them to adopt best practices for litter prevention. Utilize KLB’s free educational resources for grades K-5.
  • Apply for KLB and State grant opportunities to support litter education, removal, prevention, and enforcement in your community.
