Keep Bossier Beautiful Hosts Successful “Tree Cycling” Effort

These trees will create a habitat for fish.

A dozen volunteers along with representatives from Cypress Black Bayou braved the cold Saturday, January 13 to help with Keep Bossier Beautiful’s (KBB) “tree cycling” effort. After the holidays, the organization asked area residents and businesses to recycle their live Christmas trees rather than tossing them to the curb. Nearly 300 trees were collected, then prepped, and sunk in Cypress Black Bayou to help support fish habitat. The submerged tree trunks and branches provide a nursery for small warm water fish.

“Our volunteers and community partners are vital to our mission,” says Lynn Bryan, KBB Executive Director. “What a great way to end the holiday season – giving back to nature.”

“Keep Bossier Beautiful and other organizations across the state save thousands of trees from the landfill after the Christmas season concludes,” says Cabell Mouton, Community Engagement and Affiliate Services Director. “From coastal restoration to habitat creation, these repurposed trees are greatly benefiting our environment here in Louisiana.”
