Show How You Love the Boot
From April 18 to 24, Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) will present Love the Boot Week, a week-long Earth Day initiative supported by our Governor and Lieutenant Governor, to clean up our communities and spread awareness for the litter problem Louisiana continues to experience.
The idea for Love the Boot Week came about through working with KLB’s affiliates and realizing a significant collective effort was required to make our state comprehend the severity of litter’s environmental and economic impacts.
“We must change our behaviors and attitudes when it comes to litter in Louisiana,” says Susan Russell, Executive Director of KLB. “Love the Boot Week is a call to action for all residents of Louisiana, from state leaders to individual citizens.”
At www.lovetheboot.org, you can either organize a cleanup or beautification event or sign up to volunteer. The map tool allows you to visualize where Love the Boot events are occurring and gives you the opportunity to enter your zip code to see what’s happening near you. KLB hopes to see cleanups occur in every one of Louisiana’s 64 parishes. Whether you are organizing a 100+ volunteer event or picking up litter in your neighborhood with your family, every effort makes a difference.
“Sportsman’s Paradise won’t be litter-free overnight, but by coming together during Love the Boot Week, we can bring awareness to the issue and take steps toward achieving a more beautiful Louisiana,” says Susan Russell, Executive Director of KLB.
Following the conclusion of Love the Boot Week, KLB will release an outcomes report summarizing the collective impact of the registered cleanup and beautification events. This report will include the total number of events, volunteers, bags of trash collected, pounds of trash collected, and other pertinent statistics.
