Q and A with Calcasieu’s TrashFormer

We love seeing our Community Affiliates develop fun mascots to help teach youth about the importance of preventing litter and caring for the environment. To combat litter and promote environmental stewardship, the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury and Pick It Up Calcasieu introduced TrashFormer,  a live-action, litter-collecting robot. He’s not just a mascot — he’s a symbol of collective responsibility and action. Designed to engage both young and old, this vibrant character is a constant reminder that keeping our surroundings clean starts with each of us. We recently got the chance to interview TrashFormer and learned quite a bit about him!

  1. What are some of your favorite things?

As a robot, I collect litter in my own special way … but I also collect things that make me happy! I like to collect:

  • Pictures of my friends picking up trash at school and in their community.
  • Crayon art! I love the coloring pages that are sent to me by students after I visit their classroom.
  • New friends — of all ages! — who volunteer their time to help me pick up litter.

  1. Where are some of your favorite places to visit?

I like to visit places like Prien Lake Park, Mallard Junction Park, Intracoastal Park, River Bluff Park, and the other parks in Calcasieu Parish. I enjoy spending time in litter-free spaces with my friends, and I like taking part in outdoor activities that help promote a litter-free parish.

  1. How do you feel about litter?

Litter is bad! It leaves ball fields, parks, and yards dirty. It’s ugly. It can hurt the pets we love and wildlife all around us. That’s why I use my superpower to pick up litter. It’s also why I have coloring books, school visits, and free activities to encourage people to “Pick It Up!” when they see litter!

  1. What are some litter clean-up tips you provide people who want to help?

We can all fight and win against litter. Here’s how:

  • Never throw litter on the ground or in the water. Always use a trash can.
  • When you see litter on the ground, “Pick It Up!” and throw it away.
  • Join with friends and family in a volunteer cleanup of our neighborhood, school, church, or park.
