Mandeville Hosts Free Glass Recycling and Paper Shredding Event with Boy Scouts’ Help
On Saturday, August 23, 2025, Keep Mandeville Beautiful and the City of Mandeville held a successful Free Glass Recycling and Paper Shredding Event at the Paul Spitzfaden Community Center, giving residents a convenient way to dispose of glass and securely shred sensitive documents. With the support of Boy Scout Troop 611, 9,300 lbs of paper and glass were collected for recycling.
The event, organized by Keep Mandeville Beautiful, not only promoted sustainability and safe disposal practices, but also showcased the spirit of community service. Members of the local Boy Scouts Troop 611 volunteered their time to assist, helping residents unload vehicles, sort recyclables, and guide traffic through the drop-off area.
Over the course of three hours, 4,500 lbs of paper were collected – equal to approximately 54 trees. The 4,800 lbs of glass that was collected will be recycled into sand for coastal restoration.
“We thank the Boy Scouts for their support and applaud the citizens of Mandeville for coming out and recycling their paper and glass,” said Susan Russell, KLB Executive Director. “The material collected will be re–purposed rather than ending up in a landfill. Congratulations to all involved in this successful effort!”
Keep Mandeville Beautiful plans to continue hosting free recycling and shredding events in partnership with local organizations and volunteer groups. Residents are encouraged to follow city announcements and Keep Mandeville Beautiful’s Facebook page for updates on upcoming opportunities to participate.
