Keep Louisiana Beautiful Affiliate and Partners Host Recycling Events During America Recycles Month in November
BATON ROUGE, La. – Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) Affiliates and partners across the state will host community recycling events throughout November in celebration of America Recycles Month, a national initiative encouraging people to reduce waste, recycle more, and help keep their communities clean.
“Recycling is one of the most effective ways we can remove litter from our communities and keep Louisiana beautiful,” said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. “When we recycle, we’re not only keeping trash out of our bayous, parks, and roadways – we’re turning waste into something useful and protecting the natural beauty that defines our Sportsman’s Paradise. I’m proud of our Keep Louisiana Beautiful Affiliates and partners for leading the way this month and showing how recycling helps clean up and preserve our great state.”

“Access to recycling needs to be improved in Louisiana and across the country,” said Susan Russell, KLB Executive Director. “We are grateful to our Affiliates and partners for stepping up and filling the need for recycling services in their local communities.”
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), recycling helps reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills, conserves natural resources, prevents pollution, saves energy, and creates new jobs in recycling and manufacturing industries. However, The Recycling Partnership’s 2022 State of Louisiana Residential Recycling Access and Infrastructure Report found that only 45 of Louisiana’s approximately 190 municipalities and parishes offer residential recycling programs. As a result, an estimated 623,000 tons of recyclable materials end up in landfills each year due to limited access.
Through education, partnerships, and statewide events, Keep Louisiana Beautiful and its Affiliates continue working toward a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Louisiana.
