Ways to Be Kind to Pollinators

Did you know June 17-23 is Pollinator Week? Year-round, fostering a healthy environment for pollinators to thrive in is important. Pollinators like bees, butterflies, moths, bats, and birds move pollen from one plant to another, allowing plants to reproduce. When you protect pollinators, you are supporting the planet’s vital ecosystems, global economy, and food supply.

Here are a few ways you can help protect pollinators:

  • Grow native plants! Native plants provide nectar for pollinators. Connect with a native plant organization near you to learn what plants to grow in your yard, community garden, or at your place of business. You can even get your outdoor space recognized as a Louisiana Certified Habitat!
  • Read a book to the kids in your life. Head to your local library to check out a book on pollinators. At a young age, kids should learn the importance of being kind to their pollinator friends.
  • Don’t use harmful sprays. Pesticides harm pollinators, so check to see what you or your landscaper are spraying in your yard.
  • Support local bees and beekeepers by buying local honey. Supporting a sustainable, local beekeeper means you are supporting the conservation of bees. Plus you are helping your local economy!

Thank you for doing your part to protect pollinators!
