A Month-Long, Statewide Waterway and Shoreline Cleanup

September 2026

Keep Louisiana Beautiful needs your help to clean up our state’s rivers, lakes, bayous, and shorelines. Our 14,400-mile waterway system is Louisiana’s lifeblood, essential to the vitality of our environment, economy, health, recreation, and culture. We all need to pitch in to clean up marine litter and Love Our Waterways.

Let's Work Together for Litter-Free Waterways and Spotless Shores.

The Problem

80% of litter and debris in water begins on land. It makes its way into ditches and streams; it’s carried into our bayous, rivers, and lakes, and eventually into the Gulf of Mexico. With Louisiana being positioned at the mouth of the Mississippi River, we are susceptible to not only the litter generated in our state, but all of the 31 U.S. states that are part of the Mississippi River Watershed — the fourth largest watershed in the world.

Ways YOU Can Help

Clean up Shorelines

80% of marine litter starts on land. It's important to prevent litter and clean it up before it enters our waterways.

Clean up by boat

Litter is harming fish and wildlife and polluting our water. Paddlers and motorized boaters are needed to help clean up our waterways.
