Leading the Way in Green Campus Initiatives
Keep Louisiana Beautiful’s higher education partners are committed to keeping their campuses clean, green, and beautiful. They are cultivating a culture centered around environmental responsibility with their academic offerings, campus programs, and extracurricular activities.
University Affiliates
Being a Keep Louisiana Beautiful University Affiliate represents a commitment to continual improvement in sustainability and environmental issues, promoting student environmental stewardship and engagement, and outcome measurement. With 13 University Affiliates, the program is the largest of its kind in the country. These universities are empowering students, faculty, and staff to be environmental changemakers.
Community College Affiliates
The Keep Louisiana Beautiful Community & Technical College Affiliate program is designed to engage students and their extended families in environmental sustainability efforts, litter prevention, and beautification projects, both on campus and in the community. The program combines hands-on projects and opportunities for students to collaborate with local organizations to create lasting, positive impacts.

History of the Program
The University Affiliate program was developed in 2021 in response to a growing interest in sustainability, waste reduction, and litter prevention at the university level. University of Louisiana at Lafayette, with Keep Louisiana Beautiful as a sub-recipient, secured a $500,000 five-year EPA Gulf of Mexico Trash-Free Waters Grant to create and launch the program, develop a litter assessment app, develop educational training videos for campus communities, and fund grant opportunities for University Affiliates. The higher ed program grew in 2025, expanding to include Community and Technical Colleges.
University Affiliates include Dillard University, Grambling State University, Loyola University New Orleans, Louisiana State University, Louisiana Tech University, Nicholls State University, Northwestern State University, Southeastern Louisiana University, Tulane University, University of Louisiana Monroe, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, University of New Orleans, and Xavier University of Louisiana.
Community College Affiliates include Baton Rouge Community College, Delgado, Louisiana’s Community & Technical College, and SOWELA.
AASHE empowers higher education faculty, administrators, staff, and students to be effective change agents and drivers of sustainability innovation. Keep Louisiana Beautiful is a proud member of this organization.
