Recycle Dat! Collected Over 10 Tons of Material During Mardi Gras

Recycle Dat!, a Mardi Gras recycling initiative in New Orleans, is making a difference, collecting over 10 tons of material in its second year. With support from 25 organizations, Recycle Dat! collected:

  • 4,288 pounds of glass
  • 4,564 pounds of aluminum cans (approximately 154,263 cans)
  • 13,931 pounds of beads and throws
    • Including 5,100 pounds collected at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, in partnership with Realcycle.
    • Including 3,346 pounds collected through the Krewe of Reuse program by the Downtown Development District, French Quarter Management District, Vieux Carre Property Owners, Residents and Associates, and Glass Half Full. Participating hotels: Courtyard New Orleans Downtown, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Monteleone, Hyatt Centric French Quarter, New Orleans Marriott, Sheraton New Orleans, and Ritz-Carlton New Orleans

Free throw donation bags were distributed.

In addition, the Recycling Hub operated by the Osprey Initiative, collected 306 pounds of plastic bottles (approximately 8,300 bottles).

Volunteers used shopping carts to collect recycling.

This initiative is spearheaded by a total of 25 participating organizations, including the Office of Resilience and Sustainability, NOLA Ready, New Orleans & Company, Grounds Krewe, Every Can Counts, Glass Half Full, and other community partners. Fiscal sponsors include the Greater New Orleans Foundation, Keep Louisiana Beautiful, Entergy, EMR Metal Recycling, and Louisiana Beverage Association.
