Libraries across Louisiana played an important role in the success of this year’s Love the Boot Week, demonstrating how these community hubs continue to inspire community engagement, environmental stewardship, and local pride.
Throughout the week, libraries hosted their own litter cleanup and beautification events, bringing community members together to help create cleaner and greener neighborhoods, parks, roadways, and public spaces. These events gave residents of all ages an opportunity to work side by side while making a visible impact in their communities and reinforcing the importance of caring for Louisiana’s natural beauty.
Many libraries also supported local volunteer efforts through the Get Down & Clean Up program by providing clean-up supplies and resources to residents eager to make a difference in their communities. By serving as convenient pickup locations for litter cleanup kits, libraries helped remove barriers to participation and empowered more individuals, families, schools, and community groups to get involved in local beautification efforts.
Love the Boot Week also brought a noticeable increase in Get Down & Clean Up kit checkouts at participating libraries statewide, highlighting growing community interest in hands-on environmental action and the accessibility libraries provide for volunteer initiatives. The surge in participation showcased how libraries continue to evolve beyond traditional spaces by serving as centers for civic engagement, sustainability, and community connection.
In addition to cleanup efforts, libraries engaged younger audiences through the Love the Boot poster coloring activity, giving children an opportunity to creatively express what a cleaner Louisiana means to them while learning about the importance of litter prevention, recycling, and beautification. These activities helped spark conversations about environmental responsibility and encouraged the next generation to take pride in keeping their communities clean.

Libraries also used Love the Boot Week as an opportunity to connect residents with educational resources, promote volunteerism, and strengthen partnerships with local organizations and community leaders. Their involvement helped expand the reach of cleanup efforts while creating welcoming spaces for collaboration and community involvement.
From organizing events to equipping volunteers and engaging families, Louisiana libraries continue to serve as powerful community partners in building a cleaner, greener, and more beautiful state.
