Keep Louisiana Beautiful Hosts Affiliate Regional Meetings Across the State

Keep Louisiana Beautiful has a robust network of 67 Community, University, and Community College Affiliates that are working diligently in their communities to stop litter, reduce waste, educate, and beautify shared spaces. Our Affiliates are the boots on the ground, engaging local citizens in their efforts to keep Louisiana clean and beautiful. This summer, Keep Louisiana Beautiful held three regional meetings across the state for Affiliates to learn about new litter prevention programs, network, and discuss to achieve cleaner, greener communities.

One topic of discussion at the Affiliate meetings was litter enforcement and the litter hotline, 855-LA-LITTER. Last fall, Lt. Governor and Keep Louisiana Beautiful announced that tickets would now be issued to those found guilty of littering. Travis Huval, Keep Louisiana Beautiful’s Litter Enforcement Specialist, updated the Affiliates on the new litter law and reminded them to promote it at the local level.

Keep Louisiana Beautiful’s Executive Director, Susan Russell, and Asst. Executive Director Heather Hart also shared the new Litter-Free Schools program. By reaching students at a formative age (grades K-5), this program creates lasting behavior change that reduces litter, strengthens school pride, and builds a culture of environmental responsibility statewide.

Affiliates also got the chance to share what they are doing locally. This idea-sharing inspired thoughtful dialogue, and individuals were able to take new ideas back to their communities.

The first Affiliate Regional Meeting of the summer, on June 2, was hosted by Keep St. John Beautiful in St. John Parish at the Leroy D. Williams Library. Twenty-five regional Affiliates were in attendance. Keep Livingston Parish Beautiful and Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office were honored with a Love the Boot Award.
