Clean Biz Spotlight: Green Oaks Apothecary
The Slidell-based small business, Green Oaks Apothecary, is making environmentally friendly decisions one glass at a time. Specializing in handmade herbal remedies, Green Oaks Apothecary creates soaps and body products using both organic ingredients and locally harvested plants, all with the environment in mind.
In addition to recycling everything possible, the team at Green Oaks sources materials at local farmers’ markets, picks up litter along their street, and supports local wildlife. They collect and grow thousands of native seeds to give away to customers, encouraging residents to grow herbal gardens and create habitats for endangered pollinators and insects.
Green Oaks Apothecary also contributes to their community by reusing locally donated glass bottles. By cleaning and cutting these jars, they transform what was once landfill-bound glass into beautiful, aromatic candles, giving the bottles new life.
Green Oaks Apothecary, through their Clean Biz Partnership with Keep Louisiana Beautiful, has committed to the program’s set of best practices to reduce and prevent litter. Instead of stopping there, they have identified and are actively pursuing additional sustainability practices that make sense for their unique business.
