Sustainability Leader Spotlight: Brett Davis, Founding Director of Grounds Krewe

With Mardi Gras festivities in full swing, we wanted to share this video featuring the founding director of Grounds Krewe, Brett Davis. Watch this video to learn about Brett’s journey to founding his non-profit and learn about the organization’s efforts to address the enormous amount of waste and litter generated during carnival season.

Year-round, Grounds Krewe works to promote and provide waste prevention, recycling, and sustainable products for New Orleans events, including Mardi Gras parades. “We want to sell affordable, eco-friendly parade throws that promote Louisiana products and people, creating alternatives to the disposable plastic items imported from overseas,” said Brett.

As part of a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Trash Free Waters grant awarded to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Office of Sustainability with KLB as a sub-recipient, a series of interviews were conducted with Louisiana’s leaders in sustainability. This video and others will be used by KLB University Affiliates in classrooms to showcase various career paths that emphasize environmental stewardship. Thank you to Brett and our other leaders who shared their stories with students across Louisiana!

We encourage you to learn more about the KLB University Affiliate Network and University Sustainability Coalition. These colleges and universities are leading the way in green campus initiatives and inspiring student change-makers.
