During the first portion of the meeting, Melissa Kenyon, KLB Director of Marketing and Communications, touched on best practices and strategies for the following:

  • Setting realistic goals
  • Asking questions and determining your audience
  • Message development
  • Social media content, engagement, and rules of thumb
  • Using Canva to improve your graphics and overall look
  • Using data to determine your effectiveness on social media
  • Growing and organizing your contacts
  • Planning and staying organized

Melissa opened up the floor to attendees to share their experiences with marketing, allowing people to voice both struggles and successes.

Following Melissa’s presentation, PR expert Kayla Bertucci of Innovative Advertising, conducted a two-part media training. In the first portion of her presentation, Kayla spoke about press release writing, interview skills, and media relationship strategies. Attendees learned PR fundamentals and enjoyed testing their skills in a press release writing exercise. Kayla went on to talk about strategies for pitching to the media and tips and tricks for media interviews.

In the second portion of the training, Kayla went over “good words vs. bad words” and attendees ran practice interviews in pairs. The training was immensely successful and the attendees grew more confident in their media relations skills.

The next in-person training opportunity for the Affiliate network and KLB partners will occur at the KLB State Conference on October 23-24 at the Crowne Plaza in Baton Rouge. Registration is now open.
