Keep Louisiana Beautiful and Legislative Youth Advisory Council Receive Love the Boot Week Resolution

The Louisiana State Senate announced the passing of Resolution No. 30, recognizing April 18-24, 2022 as Love the Boot Week — an action-oriented campaign dedicated to litter clean up and beautification across the state of Louisiana.

On April 18, Senator Eddie J. Lambert presented Keep Louisiana Beautiful and the Louisiana Legislative Youth Advisory Council (LYAC) with the resolution, commending both groups for their efforts to protect the environment and promote positive change through clean up efforts.

“Legislative Youth Advisory Council members feel passionately about protecting the environment for generations to come,” says Megan Bella, Documents and Records and LYAC Staff Coordinator for the Louisiana State Senate. “It is an honor to work with Keep Louisiana Beautiful on its “Love the Boot” campaign to encourage young people to take pride in their state by organizing litter cleanup efforts.”

Now in its 10th year, the LYAC is a body created by state law which is composed entirely of high school students with an interest in representing the voices of young people across the state. It opens the line of communication between youth and the legislature and gives students the opportunity to be involved in the workings of government. The 31 student members are appointed each year, three from each of the state’s congressional districts and the remaining members at large. The Louisiana Commission on Civic Education oversees the work of LYAC and selects its membership.
