BATON ROUGE, La. – Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser and Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) are awarding more than $500,000 in grant funding to communities and organizations across Louisiana to help prevent litter, reduce waste, improve recycling, beautify public spaces and strengthen enforcement of the state’s litter and illegal dumping laws.
Through the 2026-27 Beautification Grant, Healthy Communities Grant, Greener Grounds Grant, and Litter Enforcement Surveillance Camera Grant programs, KLB awarded a total of $510,797 to local governments, nonprofit organizations, educational institutions and other eligible organizations throughout the state.
The four grant programs support a range of local efforts, including:
- Beautification Grants for projects that improve and enhance public spaces.
- Healthy Communities Grants for projects that encourage positive behavior change while improving the appearance and environmental health of communities.
- Greener Grounds Grants to help reduce waste and increase recycling at large outdoor community events.
- Litter Enforcement Surveillance Camera Grants to support local efforts to identify and prosecute littering and illegal dumping.
“Every community has a role to play in keeping Louisiana beautiful, and these grants give local leaders the resources to take action where they live,” said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. “We cannot slow down when it comes to keeping Louisiana clean and beautiful. These grants help communities keep their foot on the gas by tackling litter, improving public spaces, reducing waste and holding people accountable for illegal dumping. That work is happening in communities across our state, and it matters.”
The grant programs were developed to address key findings from KLB’s 2023 Louisiana Litter Study, which found that maintained and beautified spaces have 87% less litter. The study also found that 68% of Louisiana residents support increased litter enforcement, while only a small portion of the overall cost of litter is directed toward prevention and education.
Together, the findings highlight the importance of investing in the full range of strategies needed to address litter, including prevention, education, beautification and enforcement.
“Each of these grant programs address a different part of the litter and waste challenge,” said Susan Russell, Keep Louisiana Beautiful Executive Director. “Whether communities are improving highly visible public spaces, educating residents and preventing litter, reducing waste at events, expanding recycling or strengthening enforcement, these local efforts support cleaner, healthier communities and encourage lasting behavior change.”
The grants build on Keep Louisiana Beautiful’s broader efforts to engage communities across the state in creating cleaner, healthier and more vibrant places to live, work and visit.
