Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser and Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) are now accepting online applications for three grant programs designed to support community improvement and environmental stewardship across the state: the Greener Grounds Grant for large outdoor events, the Healthy Communities Grant, and the Beautification Grant.

The programs provide funding to help communities prevent litter, enhance public spaces, and engage residents in protecting Louisiana’s environment. Applications for all three grants are available at KeepLouisianaBeautiful.org.

“Louisiana’s natural beauty and welcoming communities are what make our state special, and keeping them looking their best takes all of us working together,” said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser. “These grants empower local partners to prevent litter, beautify neighborhoods, and promote responsible waste practices that benefit residents and visitors alike. I’m grateful to our state legislature for supporting litter abatement, allowing us to implement grant opportunities to benefit our local communities.”

Greener Grounds Grant

The Greener Grounds Grant is a reimbursement grant of up to $10,000 that helps large outdoor events such as festivals and fairs implement best practices for litter prevention, recycling, and waste reduction. The program is based on the Greener Grounds Guidebook and Workbook, developed in collaboration with French Quarter Festivals, Inc.

Nonprofit organizations, municipalities, and parishes hosting outdoor events with more than 1,000 attendees are eligible to apply. Eligible events must be open to the public and take place in Louisiana between September 2026 and May 2027.

Grant funds may be used for trash and recycling receptacles, litter and waste signage, educational materials, volunteer support items, and litter removal supplies. Grant recipients are required to complete the Greener Grounds Workbook.

Applications are open now on the Greener Grounds Grant webpage and must be submitted by June 21, 2026.

Healthy Communities Grant

The Healthy Communities Grant provides funding ranging from $2,500 to $10,000 for local projects and programs that encourage behavioral changes to improve the appearance of Louisiana communities.

Eligible projects may focus on litter removal, prevention and education; improved waste management practices; recycling and reuse initiatives; litter enforcement; and other related efforts. KLB prioritizes projects that demonstrate strong community support, promote volunteer participation, and encourage collaboration among local stakeholders.

Eligible applicants include Louisiana parishes, municipalities, state agencies, governmental entities, schools, colleges and universities, nonprofit organizations, KLB Community Affiliates who are current Circle of Excellence recipients, and KLB University Affiliates.

Projects must be completed prior to April 30, 2027. Applications are open now on the Healthy Communities Grant webpage and must be submitted by June 21, 2026.

Beautification Grant

The Beautification Grant offers reimbursement funding from $1,000 to $10,000 for projects that enhance the appearance of public spaces throughout Louisiana.

Projects should focus on beautifying community entry points, public spaces, or highly trafficked roadway medians. Research shows people are less likely to litter in areas that are attractive, well-maintained, and demonstrate community pride.

Eligible projects must include at least 25 percent native Louisiana plants or trees and demonstrate community support, organizational partnerships, matching contributions, and benefits for local residents.

Louisiana parishes and municipalities are eligible to apply. Projects must be completed by May 7, 2027, and applications, available on the Beautification Grant webpage, are due June 21, 2026.

“Through these three grant programs, KLB aims to empower communities and organizations to take pride in their surroundings and work together to protect and enhance our Sportsman’s Paradise,” said Susan Russell, KLB Executive Director.

These grants are made possible through funding from the State of Louisiana and the Office of Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser.
