Litter Prevention
Preventing litter is Keep Louisiana Beautiful’s ultimate goal. Achieving that goal requires educating the public about the harmful effects of litter and encouraging everyday habits that help prevent it. We can also prevent litter through improved community infrastructure, which involves ensuring the availability of quality receptacles and ensuring that trash is picked up and disposed of properly by waste haulers.

Waste Reduction & Recycling
Keep Louisiana Beautiful also supports organizations in their efforts to recycle, reduce waste, and decrease the use of single-use plastics. Not only is reducing waste and recycling environmentally beneficial, but these actions also prevent litter. Plastic bags and water bottles are among the most frequently littered items in Louisiana, according to the Keep Louisiana Beautiful litter study. Recycling can vary from community to community, and we encourage you to see what local recycling services are available to you by contacting your local government or waste removal company.

Beautification
People want to live in and visit a clean, beautiful Louisiana. When a community is well cared for, it shows, creating a ripple effect of benefits that can include a stronger economy, increased property values, safer public spaces, and an overall higher quality of life for residents. Keep Louisiana Beautiful encourages communities to prioritize beautification efforts that foster community pride and create spaces where people want to live, work, and visit.

Enforcement & Reporting
Enforcement is a key part of cleaning up Louisiana. Littering is illegal and we must hold those who litter or dump illegally accountable for their actions. Citizens can report littering and illegal dumping to 855-LA-LITTER. Those found guilty, will be subject to fines and other consequences.
