Louisiana Blue Champions Community Health During Love the Boot Week

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana (Louisiana Blue) partnered with Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) for the fourth annual Love the Boot Week, held April 5–13, 2025, to highlight the connection between a clean environment and a healthy Louisiana. As a longtime supporter of Love the Boot Week, Louisiana Blue recognizes that litter negatively impacts community health and quality of life.

“This event brings people together to create cleaner, healthier spaces,” said Michael Tipton, Louisiana Blue Foundation president and head of community relations.

This year, Louisiana Blue supported five cleanup and beautification projects in the regions where their offices are located. In addition to providing funding, Louisiana Blue encouraged employee participation, offering staff a hands-on opportunity to engage in meaningful, community-strengthening volunteer work.

In the Monroe area, Keep Monroe Beautiful and Ouachita Green collaborated to beautify the “Welcome to Monroe” signs on the north and south ends of the city. Louisiana Blue volunteers planted native Louisiana plants in large beds around the signs and picked up litter in the area, creating an inviting gateway into the community.

In the New Orleans area, Louisiana Blue supported the newly forming KLB Affiliate, Keep Westbank Beautiful, which led a large-scale litter cleanup along a major stretch of roadway in Marrero. The day included a community-building celebration and the debut of branded tents and educational signage, resources that will support many more volunteer and outreach events to come.

In the Lafayette area, Keep Carencro Beautiful, another Community Affiliate in formation, painted a bold new mural featuring their logo at the entrance to downtown Carencro. Volunteers, including Louisiana Blue employees, planted azalea bushes in a nearby park and enjoyed celebrating the unveiling of the new mural. The mural serves as both a beautification achievement and a call to action to keep the community clean and vibrant.

In the Shreveport region, KLB Affiliate Shreveport Green hosted a dynamic Earth Day celebration at their Urban Farm under the theme: Our Power, Our Planet. The event featured interactive stations with activities around creative recycling and repurposing, native planting, composting, and litter supplies giveaway. The day’s activities were aimed at empowering the community to make a difference.

Louisiana Blue also played a key role in KLB’s kickoff event held in downtown Baton Rouge the day before Love the Boot Week officially began. The celebration included networking, a press conference, and a group litter cleanup, where a large team of Louisiana Blue employees rolled up their sleeves and made a visible impact in the downtown community.

Through their ongoing sponsorship and employee involvement, Louisiana Blue continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to community wellness and environmental stewardship. Their support helps amplify local efforts and reinforces the message that a clean Louisiana is a healthy Louisiana.
