KOCH has supplied a grant and some past graduating classes have adopted a tree to plant and care for on the SJH campus. The event will be held on Arbor Day\, January 20 at the St. James High School Campus on LA Highway 20 in Vacherie. St. James High 4-H clubs\, Student Council\, Wild Cat productions\, and the SJH student body will all be involved in the planting as well as representatives of graduating classes who adopted a tree.

DESCRIPTION:KEEP COVINGTON BEAUTIFUL is sponsoring its annual BOGUE FALAYA RIVER SWEEP\, a litter cleanup on the Bogue Falaya River\, on Saturday\, September 24. KCB invites volunteers to bring their canoes & kayaks to the Bogue Falaya Park Boat Launch at 9:00 a.m. Paddlers will collect litter from the river between the Hwy 190 Bridge & the 4th Avenue\, Menetre Boat Launch. All trash collected will be unloaded\, sorted and categorized at Bogue Falaya Park. \n  \nKCB will provide trash bags\, gloves & litter grabbers. Please bring your own drinking water. A limited number of canoes & kayaks can be reserved by texting Canoe & Trail at 504-233-0686 to be picked up & returned at The Chimes. Please sign up by September 16 at info@keepcovingtonbeautiful.org. Personal flotation devices are required for all paddlers. \n  \nAll paddlers & volunteers will be required to sign a waiver before participating in the event. Signature of parent or guardian is required for youth under the age of 18\, or if part of a group\, by the organization’s authorized adult sponsor. The waiver form will be available at www.keepcovingtonbeautiful.org and at the event. \n  \nVolunteers are needed to help at the park & at The Chimes with signing in the paddlers & at the park with the refreshments\, unloading & categorizing the trash collected. Snacks and water will be available for volunteers and paddlers following the clean-up. DESCRIPTION:The Lowe’s Hometowns program has committed to completing improvement projects in 100 hometowns across the country\, and one of the projects selected was submitted by Keep Louisiana Beautiful Community Affiliate\, Shreveport Green. Shreveport Green received $25\,000 for their M.L.K. Community Garden project\, involving the construction of a pergola\, fencing\, the painting of a large storage container\, and the improvement of six vegetable beds. \n  \nOn September 22\, Lowe’s employees will join Shreveport Green volunteers to complete the project at the corner of Dr. Martin Luther King Drive and Legardy Street in the M.L.K. neighborhood. The once abandoned 1/2 acre lot was purchased by Caddo Parish\, and for the past three years\, Shreveport Green has been utilizing the space to develop a community garden and meeting place. \n  \nConnect with Shreveport Green for more info. \n

DESCRIPTION:The City of Morgan City\, in partnership with Keep St. Mary Beautiful\, is hosting a litter cleanup the week before the 86th Shrimp & Petroleum Festival. \n \nAbout the Shrimp & Petroleum Festival \nThe festival—the oldest chartered harvest festival—recognizes the working men and women of both the seafood and petroleum industries which are the economic lifeblood of the area. The festival also emphasizes the unique way in which these two seemingly different industries work hand in hand culturally and environmentally. The blessing of the industries is what the festival is all about. The festival includes bands\, food booths\, fireworks\, arts and crafts\, a blessing of the fleet\, Mass in the park\, street and water parades\, and kid friendly events. Most importantly\, the crowning of a festival king & queen. Fun for the entire family. The festival will be held in downtown Morgan City Sept. 1-5.
