Digging in to Rocksey’s Toolbox
On the last day of the 2016 Keep Louisiana Beautiful Conference, KLB Executive Director Susan Russell unveiled Rocksey’s Toolkit, our eagerly anticipated environmental education program that supplies Louisiana’s next generation, grades K-4, with information that empowers them to be environmental problem-solvers in their own communities. With the assistance of adorable Rocksey the Raccoon, these lessons will help teachers guide students on how to make environmentally-sound decisions and understand the role they play in preserving the beauty of their space.
A Keep Louisiana Beautiful environmental education coordinator will conduct free teacher trainings throughout the state this November through March, 2017 and again in July, 2017. Each training is open to 15 teachers, with a final goal of educating 60 teachers and 1,500 students in the first year of program implementation. After receiving the full-day training, teachers will be certified Keep Louisiana Beautiful environmental educators and given an educational manual, complete with ten lessons plans, twenty worksheets, and a full box of supplies needed to conduct associated activities and science experiments.
Trainings will take place on Saturdays, 9am-3pm, and coordinated through a KLB affiliate or other interested organization/group that commits to hosting the training in their community. Space is limited to 15 teachers per session and teachers must reserve their space in advance.
