2016 Grant Applications Now Open

Keep Louisiana Beautiful is proud to offer two grant opportunities this year to assist local organizations with their ongoing efforts to beautify their communities and improve local environments.  Applications for both the Healthy Communities Grant and the Trash Receptacle Mini-Grant opened on Monday, January 18th and will continue to be accepted through Friday, April 7th. The online application can be found here.

Since 2004, KLB has awarded $2.7 million in grants to foster litter abatement, waste reduction, recycling, and environmental education. KLB supports strong, sustainable, action-oriented programs dedicated to these areas and funds programs that not only educate and engage, but also facilitate attitudinal, behavioral and cultural change.

Last year’s Healthy Communities Grant recipients included Lafayette Parish Bayou Vermilion District, which received a Healthy Communities Grant to purchase reusable recycling bins for local festivals and events. Greg Guidroz, Director of Environmental Awareness for the Bayou Vermillion District, was thrilled to report, “Since our receipt of the Keep Louisiana Beautiful Healthy Communities Grant last year, our recycle bins have been deployed at four festivals serving over 102,500 festival patrons and diverting over fifty-six cubic yards of recyclable paper, plastic, and aluminum away from landfills. Simultaneously, these materials have been provided a chance to be reincarnated in another life of product application.” Healthy Communities Grant applications are available to 501c3s, governmental entities, schools, universities and other civic organizations. Awards vary from $1,000 to $10,000 and are offered on a reimbursement basis.

Keep Louisiana Beautiful is also pleased to introduce the Trash Receptacle Mini Grant application this year. The Trash Receptacle Mini Grant program was created in response to the abundance of Keep Louisiana Beautiful affiliate organizations that sought additional trash receptacles for their communities. To answer that need, KLB streamlined the application process to provide KLB affiliate organizations with a basic application that provides receptacles directly instead of a cash award.

Applicants are offered the choice of three different receptacle styles, from a sleek stainless steel option suited for a downtown main street to a recycled plastic receptacle that would fit in well in a park or rural setting. KLB affiliate organizations that apply for a Trash Receptacle Mini Grant will do so in coordination with their local city or parish government to determine the right locations and receptacle styles for their communities. Up to five receptacles are available for each affiliate organization that is awarded the grant.

Applications are limited to Keep Louisiana Beautiful affiliates in Good Standing only.
