Louisiana’s Everyday Heroes Lauded by Lieutenant Governor Nungesser

BATON ROUGE, LA. – Nearly 140 guests arrived at the Heidelberg Ballroom in the Hilton Baton Rouge Capitol Center last month to honor those hailed as Everyday Heroes by Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) for their extraordinary efforts in furthering the organization’s mission to “promote personal, corporate and community responsibility for a clean and beautiful Louisiana.”

After introductory remarks made by KLB Executive Director Susan Russell, who implored the audience to express their love for the state by actively caring for it and protecting it in their everyday lives, Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser, KLB Board Chair Andy Johnson, and Board Secretary Ashley Mullens took to the stage to honor those who went above and beyond in 2016 to do just that. Those honored were:

                                                                         Alice Foster Award | Margaret Tingle, Slidell

Lo img_2854uisiana’s former First Lady, Alice Foster, played a crucial role in beautification and preservation efforts across the state in helping to launch Keep Louisiana Beautiful. The Alice Foster Award recognizes an individual volunteer for their exceptional leadership in litter prevention, waste reduction, recycling and beautification.

 

 

 

 

                                                                         Golden Can Award | Carla Buchholz, Mandeville

img_2853 The Golden Can Award recognizes a public servant who displays a deep commitment to KLB’s mission in their daily work by going above and beyond the call of duty.

 

 

 

 

 

                                                                         Most Innovative Program Award | Conrad Industries, Inc., Morgan City

img_2835The Most Innovative Program Award recognizes a successful beautification, litter prevention, recycling or waste reduction program led by a school, civic group, non-profit or KAB affiliate.

 

 

 

 

 

                                                                         Youth Award | Green School Club of the Greenville Park Leadership Academy, Hammond

The Youth Award recognizes a student or youth-led group (Kindergarten through college) that displays creative thinking, demonstrates effective leadership that engages peers and makes a significant impact on their community.

 

 

 

 

 

                                                                          Outstanding Affiliate Award | Shreveport Green

The Outstanding Affiliate Award recognizes a KAB affiliate that shows fortitude, leadership, creative and diverse programming, as well as community engagement.

 

 

 

 

 

                                                                           Corporate Leadership Award | Holyfield Construction, Monroe

img_2841The Corporate Leadership Award recognizes a business that demonstrates a consistent dedication to KLB’s mission, environmental stewardship and community enrichment.

 

 

 

 

 

                                                                         Law Enforcement Recognition Award | Maureen Kennedy, Baton Rouge

img_2842The Law Enforcement Recognition Award recognizes law enforcement personnel including Justices of the Peace, Constables, judges, and code enforcement officers who are successful at enforcing state, parish or city litter and illegal dumping laws.

 

 

 

 

Keep Louisiana Beautiful also recognized and celebrated the state affiliates which had met KLB’s standard of excellence. Those affiliates recognized were located in: Abbeville, Assumption, Covington, Eunice, Greater Lake Charles, Hammond, Lacombe, Mandeville, Morehouse, New Orleans, New Roads, Opelousas, Ouachita, Slidell, St. James, St. John, St. Mary, Terrebonne, West Baton Rouge, and Shreveport. Each was presented with a $500 check and a plaque by Lieutenant Governor Nungesser and Board Chair Andy Johnson on behalf of Keep Louisiana Beautiful.
